I am excited to share with you the reveal of Project Goldfinch – a rustic glam living room transformation! My client’s moved into their home a year and a half ago and had since only purchased the bare essentials for furniture in fear of making a design mistake. They were so excited to complete their living room and feel proud to show their home off to friends and family.
Before/Problems
My client’s had already made a wonderful purchase of this linen curved sectional with pleated skirt. The scale of it was quite perfect for the room – which is a common design mistake that I come across. The rug however was too small and wasn’t aligned correctly in the room (if you are curious about what size rug you should get for your living room check out my blog post HERE). My client’s also wanted window treatments, but didn’t want shades.
Another purchase my client’s had already made were these 2 accent chairs. They wanted to keep the chairs and make them work within the design. Another benefit of hiring an Interior Designer – we can work with existing furniture to still give you the space of your dreams!
The last and final piece that my clients wanted to keep is this accent table. It is a beautiful gray toned wood with black accents which was very easy to incorporate into their new design plan.
After/Solutions
My client’s love decor and accessories and said they wanted it filled with decor. Their style is a little bit of glam with a hint of rustic. They primarily love neutral tones with hints of color – especially blue. They wanted their space to feel complete, cozy and decorated.
Add a coffee table
We added a large scale gray toned wood coffee table to center and ground the room. A coffee table is a must in a room if you want it to feel complete – whether it be a typical coffee table or even 2 ottomans or a bench! It really pulls the space together.
New Rug in larger size
The room is fairly large as is the furniture which requires a large rug. The one we opted for is in a 9 x 12 size which allows for the front legs of each furniture piece to be on the rug. The blues in the rug pull out the blue drapes as well as the blues in the wall art.
Drapes
We went with a navy velvet drapery hung high and wide on these large windows. The room gets lots of natural light so the navy blue looks lovely in the space.
Accessories
To take advantage of the high ceilings and large space in the nook next to the fireplace we opted for a large scale art print which ties in all of the other colors in the room. The smaller scale textured table lamp provides balance, and of course no room is complete without florals!
We filled the large curved sectional with feather down insert pillows which gives the sofa a luxurious yet cozy feel! A faux fur blanket takes the comfort level up another whole notch!
I love using coffee table books galore to style a space. If you are curious what my to go coffee table books are you can check out this post HERE.
A polished nickle arched floor lamp brings height to the space since the ceilings are so high! You don’t want to forget about the upper portion of the room! It makes the perfect little reading nook on the sofa.
