This room is getting so close to being completed! I’m working on those final details – but getting everything JUST right is time consuming. This week I am focusing on the Facebook Marketplace finds that I was able to score as well as my new etageres (that I searched high and low for).
I am used to sourcing products online and consider myself somewhat of an expert in this for my clients 🙂 With styling my own home I would absolutely LOVE to use designer or to the trade only products – however, even with my designer discount, the budget just doesn’t usually allow that (minus a splurge here and there for a statement piece). A really great alternative I have found is Facebook Marketplace! You can find so many vintage gems or even designer pieces sold for a fraction of the cost.
So…what is Facebook Marketplace!? For those of you who have been living under a rock, Facebook Marketplace is a digital marketplace where users can buy, sell or trade items with others in their area. Think of it as an online garage sale – minus the awkward walking around someones garage or the face to face bartering.
The first thing I scored from Facebook Marketplace and my absolute FAV find is this Venetian mirror.
Can you believe I scored this for 200 bucks!!!?? It is ginormous too and fits the scale of the room just right. It isn’t in perfect condition – but that is what I love about it. It adds that vintage character to the design. I love finding the right mix of old and new to really bring a space together.
One of my go to purchases on Facebook Marketplace are credenzas (to be used either as a buffet table, tv stand, or entryway storage). I like to purchase these 2nd hand as they don’t need to be as functional as let’s say a bedroom dresser. When you are purchasing vintage or used furniture – it is bound to not function as it once did. Keep this in mind if you are using FB marketplace to source something that will get used very frequently. For example – the drawers don’t open up the best on this particular credenza. I will certainly use it as functional storage – however, I won’t be opening and closing these drawers every single day.
But this credenza FB marketplace find is a WIN in my book. Again, I wanted to incorporate some character pieces and loved all of the unique scalloping and shapes in this piece. It isn’t the exact blue as my wainscoting – which I like – because it adds a monochrome look without being perfectly matchy matchy.
Sourcing home accessories has been quite tricky during this One Room Challenge (more to come on this in upcoming blog post regarding bookshelf styling). I typically do a lot of my accessory shopping at places like Home Goods and Target. Buuutttt… due to the current COVID – 19 pandemic this has certainly forced me to get creative (which I have actually enjoyed the challenge). When I saw these marble corbels my jaw hit the floor.
They were priced at $50.00 for the pair because there was a crack all the way through on one of the corbels. This is a steal deal and the absolute perfect accessory to showcase some of my favorite design books!!
Lastly, these chairs are something I scored a while back actually. I had them in our living room – however, that recently went over a huge transformation and they no longer worked in the space. I didn’t even think to put them in my office. In fact – I had even ordered 2 different accent chairs to use in here..but once they arrived they just didn’t work at all in the space. I decided to try these gorgeous tufted wingback chairs out in this space…and it was a done deal.
It has a stunning mauvy pink velvet upholstery with gorgeous tufting. They are substantially sized chairs and fit the corner of the room by the window just right. I wanted an area for clients to be able to sit during design presentations that take place in my home. They are a litttlllle creaky when you sit on them, so not 100% ideal. But the charm of them is something I just can’t pass up. At least for now – until something a little less creaky comes along. 🙂
I have been scouring the internet for an etagere for weeks. Most of the gold etageres that I have been coming across were only 70″ height and I wanted something at least 84″ due to the height of the ceilings in this room. There was an option from World Market that I kept coming back to – but was determined to find something slightly more affordable. I did end up finding an option from Wayfair for 1/2 the price with the same dimensions as the World Market option. I’m not certain on quality comparison – but I am certainly not mad at the quality of my Wayfair etagere find. If you have young children you are going to want to secure the bookshelf to the wall as they could tip over – but they definitely aren’t wobbly.
So my bad – I had only ordered 1 bookshelf as I wanted to check the quality and such. During the delivery of the bookshelf it had gone out of stock online. Whoops. So I ended up needing to buy 2 different brands from Wayfair. They do have some differences – which are actually pretty noticeable when they are standing next to each other. The main difference was the gold finish. Once I got them both in the room with many of the other elements in there as well it was less noticeable (minus the gold finish). I decided to spray paint them both with my absolute favorite gold spray paint. I will share a separate blog post this week reviewing a few of the popular gold spray paints – so stay tuned for that.
